WORLD PREMIÈRE OF NEW ONE-ACT PLAY IN ALDERNEY

Alderney, 16 April 2024: The Guernsey One-Act Play Festival, now in its 74th year, will take place at Beau Sejour Guernsey from 18-25 May. And this year, for the very first time, the Alderney Theatre Group will be taking part and competing with “A WAKE”, a dramatic one-act play created especially for this event which will be performed at Beau Sejour on Friday 24 May.

Written by Lee Flewitt – Chairman of the Alderney Theatre Group who is also one of Alderney’s most prolific authors –  “A WAKE” will be performed at Beau Sejour on Friday 24th May  by a 7-strong cast directed by Charlotte Newton. However, its actual “World Première” will take place just a week earlier (15 & 16 May) in Alderney in the Georgian House Orangery.

Asked for a brief synopsis of “A WAKE”, author Lee Flewitt explained: “My play is about a failed actor and alcoholic Michael who has died, leaving a wife, a mother, a sister and several friends behind. “

“But Michael is still awake, waiting to cross over to the next world but held back for some reason he cannot fathom.

“Over the course of his wake, he witnesses home truths and revelations and  re- enacts the pivotal moments of his life, until the answers they provide give him the ability to move on.”

“This is the first time we have ever entered the Guernsey One-Act Play Festival. We are all very excited and will give it our very best to spellbind the audience and judges and hope to return Alderney with an award”, said Lee.

Tickets for the Alderney Première are £10ea and are now on sale at the Georgian House. Anybody currently off the island can book by email to info@georgianalderney.com.
