Chairman’s Report – AGM 11 April 2025

Report from The ATG Chairman, Lee Flewitt
Friday 11 April 2025
Alderney Theatre Group in 2024

2024 was dominated by the original play ‘A Wake’ which took up the first half of our year. We had no idea how well-received it was going to be and was an enormous highlight for the Alderney Theatre Group with an outstanding series of performances in Alderney before sweeping up 3 trophies at Guernsey’s One Act Play Festival in May and followed by another award at the Nationals in Coventry in July. It was a true privilege to have been instrumental in the creation of A Wake and I was very proud of our cast and crew who all did Alderney and our Theatre Group proud. A huge thank you must go to our sponsors and the people of Alderney who gave such support in getting us to both festivals.

We also saw stellar performances from many of our members in the Alderney Week Gala Spectacular whose comedy talents were shown to hundreds of people up on The Butes on one of the biggest nights in our calendar.
Our final hurrah of 2024, instead of a Pantomime, saw us donating funds to Comic Relief via Mr Richard Curtis who provided us with a script for The Vicar of Dibley “The Second Coming” – those who witnessed this wonderful production were wowed by the uncanny portrayals of such familiar characters. Thank you to all our wonderful actors, crew, behind the scenes help, bar staff, PR, ticket sales and beyond for all their support – we couldn’t do it without this wonderful village of luvvies.

Looking forward into 2025
We have a very busy calendar for the year starting tonight with our AGM and Musical Bingo with the fantastic Vinyl Vaughan which I know we’re all very much looking forward to.

Following on from this, our next big event will be a showing to Alderney of our 2025 entry into the Guernsey One Act Play Festival – a comedy called “Anger Management” by Robert Scott. It will be performed to Alderney before we leave for Guernsey on Tuesday 20th May at the Island Hall. Tickets will be £10 and available at the Anchors Box Office soon.

On Saturday July 5th we welcome London Cabaret Artist and Comedienne Eve Ferret to the Island Hall for “Fabaret” with pianist Simon Wallace. Eve has been huge on the circuit for a long time and it will be a night to remember. Tickets will be £25, again from Anchors.

We’re delighted to be welcoming back Guernsey Arts Educators for another Youth Theatre Workshop at the end of July as the children break up from school. As per the last highly popular workshop in 2023, island children will be allowed to take part free of charge for three days of exciting music, theatre and dance, culminating in a performance for the public. Date TBC.

The Gala Spectacular in Alderney Week is on Wednesday 6th August this year – anyone who’d like to take part on stage or backstage, please let us know so we can rope you in to the shenanigans.

Our big highlight of the year is coming in September, where, with thanks again to Vinyl Vaughan, we have secured a phenomenal musician and artist who spans decades of great music. The incomparable Kiki Dee is coming to Alderney to entertain us at The Island Hall on Saturday 13th September. Tickets will be £30 and available soon from Anchors – we urge you to be quick with this! She is coming with her musical partner Carmelo Luggeri who is a phenomenal guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist in his own right. I can confirm she still sounds phenomenal – we are delighted to have secured this very special opportunity.

Later in the year towards Christmas we have two more special events – Stand Up Comedian Ivo Graham is coming to Alderney (thanks to a connection with new ATG actor Tobias Hanbury) and will be giving us an hilarious evening of entertainment in October or November (date TBC).

And finally, to round off the year, I’d best get to penning a Pantomime which my wife advises me will be called “Little Rock Of Horrors”!! I’ll get it written in the next month or two and auditions and casting will take place in September for a series of 3 performances at Christmastime.

As you can see, we have a jam-packed year ahead and we are all very much looking forward to it. However, after several years of wearing the big hat and two separate stints as Chairman, it’s time to hand the ATG over to someone new with fresh enthusiasm and energy so I can focus on other projects. So I am now tending my resignation and look forward to someone filling my shoes!

With my thanks to everyone who has and continues to support our wonderful community charitable organisation,

Lee Flewitt
